Natural Language Processing

Current offering — AY2026/2027 Semester 1

Natural language processing (NLP) has many real-world applications, such as information extraction, sentiment analysis, machine translation, question answering, and summarization. It is an important subject that prepares students to handle the vast amount of unstructured text data found in web pages, business documents, and beyond. This course introduces the fundamental concepts and computational methods for natural language processing, from both linguistic and deep learning perspectives.

By the end of the course, you will have a solid understanding of the key techniques in NLP across different levels, including words, syntax, and semantics, as well as some deep learning implementations. You will also be able to apply these techniques to real-world problems and evaluate the effectiveness of your solutions.
