Psychrometry Air Conditioning

Current offering — AY2026/2027 Semester 1

This is an important mechanical engineering course covering the concepts, terminology and fundamental principles of analysing and designing air conditioning systems. You will be taught on how to use simple mathematical models and the psychometric chart representing the conditioned space and air conditioning system components used to achieve desirable environmental conditions with thermal comfort.

Particularly, you will learn the application of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics for understanding of psychrometrics, refrigeration systems, human comfort and air quality, calculations of cooling load, analysis of air conditioning system energy, and design of duct and air distribution systems. In addition, you are expected to be familiar with the use of an air conditioning software package to model building cooling loads for sizing air conditioning systems and to simulate energy consumptions.
