Introduction To Laboratory Medicine
This exciting new course aims to provide students with a basic knowledge and understanding of Laboratory Medicine. Laboratory Medicine is the science behind finding a diagnosis and a prognosis to a clinical problem, such as a disease or a clinical condition. This course is designed to prepare you to work in specialised clinical and pathology laboratories that provide diagnostic services that are an integral part of the healthcare system. The tests performed provide essential information that is used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
This course is specially curated for aspiring Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) and Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) with exposure to the latest technologies currently employed at all leading public hospitals in Singapore. A mandatory clinical rotation at the hospital laboratories in years 3 and 4 will be part of the course syllabus which will lead to the award of the degree in Biological Sciences with Specialisation in Laboratory Medicine. It is the only degree programme that is recognised by Ministry of Health for the MLT/MLS Profession. Successful graduates will be emplaced at a higher job grade at the hospital compared to graduates from other generic Biological Sciences / Life Sciences degree programmes.
