Essential Lab Skills Techniques Safety

This proposal aims to introduce a new course: Essential Lab Skills, Techniques and Safety. Basic lab skills and techniques are essential part of handworks with finesse manipulation of laboratory apparatus to achieve consistent and reliable data output from experiments experienced though the candidacy of university studies. Basic skills like liquid handling is one of the foundational lab skills to be learned to reduce experimental error that can happen at micro-volume level. Slight deviation can result in a change of values observed and recorded in experiments. Basic terminology such as quick-spin, parameters like rounds per minute (RPM) or xg (G-force) and the decimal placing on a weighing balance is crucial in getting experiment running correctly. Students will undergo practicing of lab skills with basic equipment and apparatus in Teaching Lab and familiarize with the required lab skills to prepare for lab practical, and lab-oriented attachments along with required safety orientation required in a laboratory setting.
