This course aims to highlight the relevance of the study of the theory of vibration and noise control to solve field problems. It is intended for you to develop a practical and systematic approach to controlling noise and vibration. Many noise problems relative to machines, buildings, etc., are in fact vibration problems; and the vibration problem must be solved before the noise problem can be eliminated. Besides covering the basic concepts of understanding vibration, analyzing vibration, and predicting the behavior of vibrating systems, the main emphasis is intended to provide the skills needed for designing vibrating systems with desired properties that enhance vibration when it is wanted and reduce vibration when it is unwanted. The course also deals with fundamentals of sound propagations, generations, measurement techniques, noise evaluations and the noise control methods.
