This course will explore the following issues: cultural formations and reformations (in the light of larger geopolitical agendas), community-based artistic interventions and their complicit role in technologies of governmentality, and the forms and roles of artistic resistance in attempts to effect social change. This course will include site visits to view relevant forms of art, as well as engage with local artists who actively work with communities and social issues. By taking this course, you will gain a more complex, contextual understanding on how political forces of reform and resistance shape and are shaped by artists and their artistic endeavours.
