Duality of matter and the Heisenberg principle, Schrodinger equation of simple systems, postulates of quantum mechanics, symmetry elements and operators, probability, order and disorder, statistical interpretation of entropy and the Boltzmann equation, Boltzmann distribution and the partition function for an ideal gas and thermodynamic functions for ideal gases. Examples from the biological systems will be used to illustrate the above concepts.
