The course is divided in three parts. Part I looks at China's foreign policy towards Africa, namely its evolution since 1949, the normative underpinnings and drivers as well as the complexity of actors and agents involved. The second part deconstructs the various dimensions of China's engagement in Africa, specifically trade and economic cooperation, development assistance, extractive and other industries, security issues and soft power. The final part examines the overall impact of China in Africa in regards to the continent?s development and the meaning for its international relations and the future of Africa.
