Unlike STARS Round 1 and Round 2, which are scheduled bidding windows before teaching starts, add/drop happens while classes are already running. You are adjusting a timetable that is already partly locked in.
Why seats open up during add/drop
Seats become available during add/drop for a few consistent reasons:
- Students drop modules after attending the first class and deciding the workload, content, or schedule does not work for them
- Students who over-registered during STARS to hedge their options drop the modules they end up not needing
- Clashes surface once a student’s full timetable is confirmed, forcing drops on one side of the clash
- Prerequisite or programme issues get caught late, causing administrative drops that free the seat
Because of this, the very first few days of add/drop typically see the most movement. A module that showed zero seats at the end of Round 2 can reopen within the first day or two of add/drop as students finalise their real schedules.
How to actually use add/drop
