Monsters Trauma Exploring Asian Horror Across Media
This course is an interdisciplinary module which combines research, writing and creative practice in order to explore culture, politics, society, art, and history through the lens of Asian Horror. It's intended for students interested in culture, working across disciplines and developing their critical and creative work. You will be exploring the horror genre through literature, film, TV, art, comics, and games, and looking at how different cultures produce different forms of horror which can be explored using a range of critical and theoretical frameworks including feminist and post/decolonial theory. You'll hone your critical thinking skills, address issues around identity and examine the formal, artistic qualities of the works themselves. This course is a platform for you to strengthen your independent research skills, critical writing, as well as to develop an imaginative creative practice.
