This course examines the social contexts of age and aging. The primary focus of the course is on aging process and the elderly. Our approach emphasizes the complexity of aging, recognizing it as a multidimensional process. Students will examine the situations, contributions, and concerns of the elderly. Consideration will be given to ethical issues and dilemmas and to social and professional responses. The social and economic challenges posed by an aging population will also be considered.
