BritishAsian Literature

Last offered — AY2014/2015 Semester 2

The contribution of British-Asian writers to post war English literature will form the central focus of this subject in the context of issues like multiculturalism, immigrant literature, minority writing, womens writing, the clash(es) of cultures and the relationship between Asian and non-Asian literatures in post-war England. Writers of South Indian descent like Salman Rushdie, Hanif Kureishi, Monica Ali and Meera Syal, as well as those of East Asian descent, like Kazuo Ishiguro and Timothy Mo are among those that may be chosen as representative voices to express a diversity of concerns and social, ethnic and intellectual backgrounds.
