This course is an introduction to political and institutional economics. The main themes are: 1. Modelling democracy and the mechanisms to support it. 2. Understanding the internal structure and problems of government. 3. Studying the origins of non-democracy and the reasons for its persistence. 4. Analysing the economic effects of political systems. 5. Studying the historical development of political and economic institutions.
