This course introduces the history of Singapore Chinese theatre beginning from the early 20th century. With the foundation in the understanding of the history, issues on models of transcultural theatre, intellectual dialogues and cultural communications with theatre as a medium, theatre activism and social engagements, national identity, and gender identity and performance, will be discussed and analysed.
