This course will introduce the social-cultural history of the book and print culture with a focus on the Chinese context. Students will learn the concepts revolving around the production, circulation and transformation of the book from ancient to the modern China before we enter a full-fledged digital era. The course will introduce the thematic concepts relating to textual productions such as manuscripts, illustrations, annotations, censorships etc.
Any students who are interested in the cross-cultural dynamics and dialogues of printing and publishing in the East and West are welcome to join this course. The course will be useful for students who aspire to build their careers in heritage /cultural industries, education professions, techno-communication and creative entrepreneurships.
