This course explores concepts, techniques and equipment involved in producing audio for radio, film and television, the web, video games, and music. Students are introduced to the basic skills and knowledge for professional audio production. Activities will include design, recording, mixing, processing and editing of audio for media projects. Some topics are applicable to all areas, such as choice and placement of microphones. Other topics are more medium-specific, such as the conversion of sound into computer files. It familiarizes students to basic studio operations, audio recording, the creative use of voice, sound and music, as well as mixing and digital editing. Students will be given opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills learnt creatively.
