Over the past few decades, new media have emerged which reconfigure traditional understandings of the cultural, economic, geographical, political, psychological, and social dimensions of group life. New media technologies like the internet, mobile phones, and the media platforms that emerge from them like internet forums, Web 2.0, social networking sites, and virtual worlds change the ways in which we think of others and ourselves, especially in terms of social relations. This course will provide students the opportunity to look closely at theories and debates about new media technologies as they relate to social relations in everyday life.
