This course will comprise the study of literatures in English through selected texts from South-East Asian countries. It will also include texts in English translation. These texts will be studied both in the social, cultural and political contexts of the countries concerned, and in the light of themes and issues shared in common such as modernization and urbanization, nationalism, resistance to colonialism, the literary treatment of World War II , the post-independence experience, and the position of women.
