This course examines the theoretical underpinnings of the study of world Englishes as well as the methods employed in this field of research. Students will be exposed to different approaches to the study of world Englishes, and consider the evolution of world Englishes from both socio-historical and linguistic perspectives. By the end of the course, students will have a greater understanding of world Englishes as a research field, with reference to its theoretical underpinnings, research methodologies, and current debates in this area of inquiry.
