This is an advanced course that draws on and consolidates all kinds of linguistic knowledge and analysis skills acquired in the pre-requisite units. Working with a native speaker of an undocumented or poorly understood language and starting from scratch, students will be taught how to systematically record, analyse and document all the functional categories of a language, thus simulating the fieldwork experience. A different language will be chosen each year.
