The purpose of this course is to enhance critical understanding what is meant by area studies, global studies and border studies through examining the cultural and literary productions of Hong Kong. Students will be able to appreciate the geopolitical features embedded and reflected in Hong Kong literature and culture. This course will enable you to understand Hong Kong literature in a local, regional and international context. This course is suitable for those who have interest in Singapore and Sinophone literature as Hong Kong literature has extensive cultural interactions with Chinese literature, Taiwan literature, Malaysian Chinese literature and Singapore literature. For those who aspires to be literary and cultural critic, newspaper columnist, schoolteacher, writer, movie producer and director wil find this course useful.
