This course aims to introduce you to the creative and technical foundations of cinematic storytelling through the interplay of sound and moving image. You will explore how narrative, atmosphere, rhythm, and visual composition come together to shape meaning and emotion in film and audio-visual media. Through hands-on workshops and a series of short-form projects, you will explore the relationship between what we see and what we hear - and how these elements work together to tell compelling stories. You will work in small groups of no more than four, encouraging close collaboration and shared responsibility throughout the production process. This course encourages you to experiment, take creative risks, and begin developing your own cinematic language. Rather than focusing on specific formats or platforms, the emphasis is on expression and storytelling, preparing you for future courses in filmmaking, media production, and interdisciplinary creative practice.
This course will lay important groundwork for students intending to pursue the Cinematic Arts specialization, while also welcoming those who has an interest in exploring audio-visual storytelling.
