Leadership Instruction In Physical Activity Sport
AY2014/2015 Semester 2
This course is characterised by a myriad of complex processes involving strategic and analytic thinking, vision and detailed planning, and ongoing authentic creation of a physically literate learning community. At the heart of successful leadership is a passion for learning underpinned by a set of essential skills and qualities that enable the leader to perform their key leadership tasks in physical activity and sport. Those who succeed in physical activity and sport tend to be leaders who draw on their personal values and abilities to maintain and develop a culture of learning and achievement, whilst simultaneously managing the ongoing tensions and dilemmas that emerge in any physical activity or sport program. Leaders can exhibit a range of leadership styles, which become successful when they reflect the needs of their setting combined with their own deep motivations. It is essential that leaders of physical activity and sport understand the need to reflect on their own performance and engage in their own process of continuous learning and development.
