Physics Of Semiconductor Spintronics Devices
AY2018/2019 Semester 2
This course aims to introduce solid state devices that signify modern technologies and microelectronics industries. These technologies are generally drawn from the physics of semiconductor and magnetism. a. Semiconductor: Electronic band structures of semiconductors, electronic properties of defects, charge carrier concentrations, drift of carriers in electric and magnetic fields, diffusion and recombination of excess carriers, p-n junction physics, junction diodes, tunnel diodes, bipolar junction transistors, metal-semiconductor contacts, metal-insulator-semiconductor interfaces, MOSFET and advanced FinFET. b. Magnetism: fundamental magnetism, ferromagnetism, magnetisation reversal process, domain wall, soft and hard magnetic materials, giant magnetoresistance, tunnelling magnetoresistance, magnetic random access memory (MRAM), magnetic media, magnetic recording head.
