This course introduces the laws governing fluid motion. Pascal?s theorem, Bernoulli equation, Euler?s equation, Navier-Stokes equation. Vorticity and divergence. Compressible and incompressible fluids, flow around objects, potential flow. Viscosity, Reynolds number. Laminar flow and turbulence. Kolmogorov scaling. Sound waves. Shock fronts, Rankine-Hugoniot relations. Hydrostatic balance, shallow-water equations, surface waves. Conservation of potential vorticity.
