This course aims to establish the basic principles of physical optics which form the foundation for many modern sciences and technologies. Wave properties, refraction and dispersion, interference, Michelson interferometer, Fraunhofer and Fresnel diffraction, resolution limit, Fourier transformation, holography; polarization, birefringence and wave plates, Fabry-Perot etalons, optical coatings, zone plates.
