Phenomenology is an important movement in 20th-century continental philosophy initiated by Edmund Husserl. This course introduces the basic concepts of Husserl?s phenomenology and the responds to this movement by Martin Heidegger, Jean-Paul Satre, Emmanuel Levinas, and Jacque Derrida. The course aims to develop students? ability to apply the phenomenological methods and concepts in analyzing philosophical issues such as intentionality, consciousness, time, etc. After the course, the students will be able to utilize phenomenology in writing a philosophical essay.
