Science Technology Lifeworld

Current offering — AY2025/2026 Semester 2

Modern science and technology have profoundly shaped the human lifeworld. This course introduces the philosophical reflections on the relation between lifeworld and science and technology in the 20th century continental philosophy. It includes topics such as the crisis of natural sciences, the foundation of mathematics and logic, the question of technology, the relation between technology and subjectivity, and the emergence of the digital age. The course covers important philosophers in the continental tradition, such as Edmund Husserl, Martin Heidegger, Don Ihde, Gilbert Simondon, Bernard Stiegler, and Yuk Hui. We will apply the tools, concepts, and theories, introduced by these philosophers to analyze the role of science and technology in the contemporary lifeworld.
