Postcolonial Sexuality

AY2017/2018 Semester 1

This course explores the implications of colonialism in current understandings of sexual knowledge and behavior. The relationship between colonized and colonizer is explored through the notion of scientific approaches to sexuality in the 19th century to shed light on Orientalism, self-orientalism and nowadays sexual cultures. The course will highlight the relationship between theory and practice in understanding the context of colonialism and sexuality.
