Research Laboratory In Psychology

AY2014/2015 Semester 2

This laboratory course aims to provide an advanced-level training for students in the skills that are required for independent research work in psychology. Throughout the course, students will work towards becoming competent psychology researchers, both in the conduct of, and in the evaluation of, research in psychology. The course aims to develop students' intellectual approach to research in psychology, and to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills that will facilitate the students' own endeavours in initiating and conducting independent research in psychology. There are two major parts to this course. The first part of the course will include focused discussion of topics about or related to research that are applicable to all fields of psychology. Examples of these topics include theory formulation, ethics, critical research review, and academic writing in psychology. The second part of the course will focus on introducing students to the research methodologies that are typically used in specific fields of psychology, ranging from neuropsychology to social psychology, to field research. In-class exercises and take-home assignments will accompany the various topics discussed in order to provide students with hands-on experience of the topics covered.
