This course introduces basic concepts and techniques employed in the theatre and those for performance with emphasis on contemporary works written and produced in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Topics discussed include Western and traditional influence on Chinese theatre, social, aesthetical, and political aspects, theatricality, performance, and the issue of Chinese language. issue of Chinese language.
