This subject discusses the role of mass media in politics and public policy making. It introduces the organization and operation of contemporary mass media. It examines the functions of mass media as the watchdog of government and the entailing effects on government transparency and freedom of information. It investigates the impact of mass media on policy making, particularly in the definition of social problems or demands, the discussion of controversial public issues, and the political campaign. This subject also examines the effects of public policies on the mass media with special focus on the media regulation policy of media structures and programming.
