Contemporary Political Theory

AY2016/2017 Semester 2

This course examines the historical emergence of modern political ideologies and debates surrounding the concept of ideology. It surveys the development of modern ideologies from the Eighteenth Century to the present, and analyzes the motives and goals of their major proponents. Topical areas include: socialism, anarchism, Marxism, liberalism, conservatism, feminism and nationalism. The history of each of these contending ideologies will be studied and analyzed along with the major works of their most important proponents.
