AY2018/2019 Semester 2

The subject introduces students to influential theories of international relations, focusing on a selection of classic and contemporary theories. It will explore the main theoretical paradigms of international relations (realism, liberalism, and constructivism) and their empirical applications in world politics. Some of the major themes that will be discussed include morality and politics; debates over methods and theory; foreign policy and global conflict; terrorism; and the search for peace. It will critically appraise the claims of these theories for explaining, understanding and shaping the course of events.
