Contemporary Landscape Photography
AY2016/2017 Semester 1
This practice-based course will explore the use of the landscape as a theme in creative photography. Students will be introduced to the different ways nature has been a prominent subject for photographers since the invention of photography over 160 years ago. They will be introduced to the subject of the landscape as being (variously) a territory ripe for conquest, a metaphor for the human condition, a feature of `the natural? and `nature? and a thing subject to man?s stewardship. Field trips will allow students to make ample use of the many natural parks and sites of Singapore. While use of 35mm and medium format cameras (both black and white film and digital colour) will predominate, students will have an opportunity to use a large format 4 x 5? camera.
