Cultural Heritage perception, policy and practice are in constant change. Students will be provided with a conceptual roadmap for the incorporation of different cultural contents within the tools of digital humanities. A focus on theoretical and practical applications of visualization approaches will be presented, from cutting edge research to the creation of multimedia communication strategies. As an interdisciplinary and complex field of science Visualization of Cultural Heritage requires sophisticated representation to visualize processes and features from a multi-scale perspectives. These range from environments to language technologies and the evaluation of the social impact of technologies for cultural heritage. Students will be provided with the necessary skills to creatively and thoughtfully apply information, communication and ICT technologies to Cultural Heritage materials and issues, in order to build ways of knowing. It will also provide the students with keys to recognize other cultures, to appreciate local heritage, and to cross the boundaries between communities helping as well in re-contextualizing the changing composition of the people of Singaporean. This course is an introduction to theoretical and practical applications of visualization of Cultural Heritage approaches, which includes: 1. Elements of the most commonly applied ICT technologies to Cultural Heritage 2. Examples of cutting edge researches and the creation of their multimedia communication strategies 3. Creating a conceptual roadmap for the incorporation of different cultural contents and tools to understand heritage artifacts (objects, sites, collections, events) in terms of geography (place) and time (history). 4. Strategies to achieve visual competence and media literacy which are central to critical thinking in the new millennium citizens and Cultural Heritage professionals.
