Introduction To The Histories Of Art
AY2015/2016 Semester 1
This course delivers an introductory survey of Western Art History, from Classical to Early Modern Art. Where the weekly progression is chronological, the emphasis is upon a thematic and critical understanding of the art works and cultures of art production from the Western canon. Such themes are discussed in the context of both the socio-historical changes taking place in Western Europe and formal developments in art making. It also serves to introduce students to the subject of Art History as a critical discipline.
