The major functions of this undergraduate seminar on the international film festivals are: 1. to provide an introduction and an overview of the major developments in the international film festivals from the 1930s to the present. 2. to develop a critical sense and appreciation for the international film festivals. 3. to understand film historiography that cinema studies? has implicated and developed for the last few decades. 4. to exercise how to think, express, and write critically about the history of world cinema. 5. to study the interaction between national and international dimensions of texts, auteurs, genres, and movements.
