This course aims to provide a foundational understanding of virology, covering major virus families, virus replication and pathogenesis, host immune responses, methodologies of virological research and antiviral strategies. You will explore how viruses differ from other microorganisms, recognize the relevance of emerging viral infections in a local and international context as well as the clinical and economic importance of viral infections. You will also be able to critically evaluate and discuss the reporting of viral diseases in the media and public discourse.
