Immunology

This course deals with the principles of how our body defends against pathogenic microorganisms. The lectures will cover the history and lay wisdom of immunology; innate vs adaptive immunity; cells of the immune system: gene rearrangement of lymphocytes, B lymphocytes; cytotoxic T lymphocytes and helper T lymphocytes; neutrophils, macrophages, natural killer cells, dendritic cells; molecules of the immune system: the antibodies, complement proteins, cytokines; activation of B and T cells; signal transduction; trafficking of leukocytes; immunological memory; autoimmunity; tolerance; vaccines; applied immunology.
