Physiological Systems Animal Models For Drug Development
AY2017/2018 Semester 1
Students will be able to design animal model experiments to understand the safety and efficacy of newly developed drugs before they can be tested in human subjects during clinical trials. Students will understand ethics of animal experiments and will know how animal experiments can be replaced or reduced. The course will provide fundamental knowledge of how research and development and preclinical studies are conducted, including topics on pharmacokinetics, biomarker discovery in animal models, alternatives to animal experiments, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in animal research, genetically modified mice and various case studies.
