This module will introduce students to the art of understanding movies from the perspective of the film critic. Not only will they acquire a basic vocabulary of film art and its terminology, they will also survey a range of writings by significant classic and contemporary film theorists, and will examine some of the major theoretical movements that have transformed the way we now read and understand film. Accompanying the theoretical readings will be viewing assignments evenly culled from various global cinematic traditions.
