Introduction To Art Criticism

Last offered — AY2014/2015 Semester 1

This course will look at the practice of writing about art in response to its appearance on the creative landscape. The history of art criticism will be examined and notable examples will be studied with a view to asking such questions as: what is its role, what is its effect, what are its failures and successes and where is it positioned in relation to the world of art practice? The student will learn to examine their own critical writing and to begin to develop their own approach to it. Students are reminded that ADM rules on attendance and plagiarism are in operation within all ADM courses as laid out in the ADM Student handbook http://www.adm.ntu.edu.sg/CurrentADM/Documents/ADMStudentHandbook2010-2011.pdf.
